WHen I returned a HP multimedia PC some 5 years ago, I went through over 40 hours of going through countless customer support people, debugging scripted routines (most were worthless, as Im an electrical engineer and I know exactly what was wrong and they wouldnt listen to me), had to escalate through their management, and eventually I got my computer replaced. My experience with computer giant's customer support is that its designed with a certain level of hassle factor so that only the determined will be successful and the impatient whiners wont be.
Seems alot of work for a $40-60 mouse, and it is actually time wise, but it will make my coupon clipping wife happy that I did so. I would also have to send them back the mouse.

I called MS Store for support and got to a replacement support person who said if I had my proof of purchase (i bought it and a MS SurfacePro2 and keyboard) at BestBuy local store, and sent them the receipt or credit card statement in PDF format via email that they would send me a replacement mouse and receiver.
